Start from little things. Jumping into situations which trigger your anxiety is a good move, but sometimes is good to do it step by step.

Join some anonymous chat groups on the internet or try Omegle chat if you will. Try to connect with some complete stranger just by text. Once you've mastered it, spark a conversation when you're with a company of close friends of yours. Get comfortable with the people you know.

Make progress, try to talk now with the cashier at your local grocery store or the cleaning lady or a taxi driver. Gain more confidence and then progress to whole groups of people.

If you have anxiety just by being in a crowded place, then go spend some time at the local mall without looking at your phone or go catch a bus, full of people. Stand in the middle of the crowd.

The more exposure you do, the more your body starts thinking: hey, this isn't so bad after all. And when your body starts being more comfortable in these types of situations, you will have more control over yourself and will have the confidence to engage with the people around you instead of just looking at your phone all the time.
