How do you avoid beating yourself up/self-criticism when you say something stupid or act kind of needy?

I've always done that. It's not a bad thing as long as you can segue that criticism into improvement. Once you fix the "stupid" and "needy" actions, then the feelings of self doubt will disappear.

Well, not totally disappear. There are still times when I remember stupid things that I did years ago, and I cringe -- but it also makes me smile to see how far I have come.

Oh man I know how you feel, exactly. Sucks. Last time it happened was last Friday when 2 hot girls were interested in me. I was dancing with one of them and I told her I had to walk another round (I'm a nightclub photographer) and she replied with "Yeah sure, I'll be right here". I guess I took too long (I had a few drinks) and she was damn gone. All I do the next 2 days is thinking about how I f'd up. What I should have done. Sometimes it even makes me feel sick. Really stupid.

Just know beforehand that no matter HOW good you get, you will still fuck up/say stupid shit and act "off' sometimes. Charge it to the game

Stop living in the past and taking life so serious. In the grand scope of things, your life is extremely insignificant and will be over in a flash. Appreciate the moment and learn to laugh about it instead of being so self critical.

Also ask youirself this "what happens when I fail with a girl"? the answer is nothing. On to the next.

Fix it next time. Eventually you'll come to a point where you've done everything in your power to progress the interaction and it is completely on her shoulders for letting the ball drop. That's when rejection feels good. However, don't use it as a cop-out if you genuinely half-assed your approach. I think it's completely okay to be harsh on yourself as long as it propels you forward.
