How Do you Hook them with the First Text?

Best advice I can give for text is that some guys overthink it. You don't have to respond to her response. You don't have to do anything. Sometimes a girl will say something that I feel like will take the conversation in a boring or dry direction. You can ignore that text. Sometimes even blatantly ignore it or sometimes just subtly go past it.

Yesterday was one such example:

Be me

Eating lunch at kitchen table

Out my kitchen window, see total gym-bunny dime on other side of the street in bright matching bicycle shorts and sports bra and with a phat ass built by squats, deadlifts, and hip thrusts

"Damn. Too bad I'm inside. I'd totally chat her up."

"Hey, wait a second, I don't have to be inside. I can catch up to her."

Put on my shoes and run out the door.

She's a block up from me. Run to catch up, but slow down so it's not obvious that I was running. Still kinda out of breath anyway.

Walk and talk with her. Compliment her matching outfit and how its colour complements her hair colour. She compliments my shirt. We get talking about what she does, and it's marketing, so I ask her what kind. She mentions web design, so we briefly chat about our shared interest in design and I make a joke about Papyrus, Comic Sans, and Hobo. She's already two minutes late to work, so I don't want to hold her up. Just tell her I'll quickly grab her number so we can chat more about design later.

It was such a quick interaction that I didn't get her invested, so she has little reason to text back

You might be thinking, "that's in your head. You don't know if she's going to text back or not. Maybe she liked you and you're overthinking it."

Well, here's the other thing. When I entered her number into my phone, I realized it was already in there. I had chatted her up before. Maybe three years ago, before the pandemic. And I distinctly remember that she never responded back then, either. And that was after a longer chat where we got deeper into life goals (she said she was getting sick of her job and marketing and wanted to go back to school) and walked and talked for, like, a good 10-15 minutes on her lunch break. I sent a basic-ass "how's it going" text, never got anything back, and forgot about it. I don't think she remembers me. But from past experience, I think I need to do more to catch her attention than the basic greeting.

So, I feel like I need to send a text that piques her interest to that point that she feels more compelled to respond. I could use our shared interest in design. I was thinking, hey, I could send her a photo of two of my favourite graphic design books, but that might come off as try-hard. "Look, I like the same thing as you! Please like me!" Or if I just ask her a short question about fonts, instead of being like, "cool, he knows enough uncommon knowledge about fonts to ask an educated question," she might be like, "fuck, I don't want to talk about boring-ass work shit with this random dude; I already work eight hours a day."

I could try to hook her with a text not about her job… but that's just about everything I know about her. Can't really think of anything funny to say that's a callback to our conversation.

Also, I've noticed that any first text longer than a couple of lines just looks like a paragraph and comes off weird, so any clever and/or interesting statement I make or question I ask has to be short, limiting my material to work with.
