I have a default response to any compliment: a low, but genuine “oh, thank you; I appreciate it.” And I lightly smile

I feel like that’s fine and all, but when a cute girl compliments you, it can sometimes be an opportunity. And I never take the opportunity because I think my default response limits me

Today, I was complimented on my jacket (it’s a neat-O colorway anorak that gets complimented often because it’s neat-O) and later, I was complimented on my car. I gave my default response both times but I thought of something witty almost immediately both times—I just didn’t say it. Thoughts? I feel like something about my frame of mind is off
