When I lived in LA, I wouldn't consider it a big thing to drive for an hour or more to get to a good restaurant. But that was only an occasional thing. If you had to drive there routinely to see a woman, that is another thing. Those sorts of women were known as "geographically undesirable."

Now where I live, if I drove an hour or two, I'd be in another state. Now let's see the economics. Assuming you drive 60mph (just to make it easy to figure, one mile per minute) a two hour drive one way is 120 miles, round trip 240 miles. Assume you're getting 25mpg (you don't drive a Prius, do you?) and gas is about $2.75/gal, that's about $26.40 per trip. I wouldn't do it. But I'm pretty broke at the moment.

I'm just reading some material (RooshV's Bang) that suggests you shouldn't spend money on women unless they're already putting out. Sounds crude, but seems right. If you're spending lots of time and money just to get to the woman, you're already playing her game, not yours.

You don't. You text. Very few guys call anymore because there are too many opportunities to screw it up, say something stupid, come across nervous, etc. Texts are a gaming god-send. Texts are quick, fast, non-needy and you can begin texting her same night (which keeps the interaction fresh in her mind). If you call after 3 days she's lost everything she felt about you. Set a limit to the number of texts you send her per day (my rule is 1) to avoid coming across as needy, keep them flirty, and keep them on task to setting up the next date.
How much gas are you willing to burn? Because she won't be very likely driving to see you unless there is some serious attraction on her part. Which means you'll be driving to see her, which means not knowing the city and venues you'll be seeing her in, and having to arrange the first bang at her place. All of these aren't insurmountable, but are definitely sub-optimal. Personally, I have a one hour rule of thumb (but only because I live in a very small town). Beyond that the logistics get too difficult to make it worthwhile. If you live in a big city, your time is much better spent pursuing the next girl. The more commitment you're putting into driving to meet this girl, the more likely you are to develop one-itis.
