It's gonna hurt, no matter what. The best and only thing you should concern your mind with is being honest, not leading them on and speaking your mind with a calm and collected attitude.

Put yourself in their position. I am thankful for all the women who have rejected me when they felt they didn't like me because it allowed me to move on as fast as possible. And I still don't understand why some lead me on and decided to continue being with me or seeing me when they knew it was over from their part (well, actually I do, fear of being lonely and being a general piece of shit, but you get my point).

I think that's what a lot of people here need to understand. Rejection is fucking good for you as long as it's done honestly and on time. Put it into perspective. There are people out there stuck in bullshit relationship who stopped trusting and respecting each other a long time ago and they make their lives miserable because they can't say "no".
