Very similar to cognitive behavioral therapy I use to combat my OCD. I hate putting myself in situations where I know I'll feel anxious or nervous but it does make things easier in the long run. Every time I give in to a compulsion, it gets harder to beat the next time. Similarly, every time you prefer to stay on the couch instead of going out or being social, it makes it more and more difficult in the future. I have an issue with the way I think I look to others so at the moment I'm making it a habit to be in public when I haven't shaved, when I'm wearing clothes I don't particularly like or simply wearing a hat and bypassing the gel/hairspray approach that seems to dictate the entire ensemble.

I recommend taking an acting class. It's there that I learned to be confident with myself and look at everyone in their eyes, acknowledge their humanity, and respect them for who they are. In the context of seddit, you can look at HBwhatevers and the intimidation just isn't there anymore.

I also have a serious look on my face usually so, it's silly, but I've been making a lot of faces and smiling in the bathroom mirror. I hope muscle memory will do the rest when I walk out on the street or in a bar/club.
