Simple. You shut up and let them to talk.

People in general are really interested in saying their story. So just be a patient listener and inspire them to talk more. Let me give you an example.

Her: I love scuba diving.

You: That sounds awesome. I too want to scuba dive. Any tips for the novice?

Enough. That should get them going for a long time. Just be a good listener and probe them with more "continuers".

You do this right, boy or girl you can take anyone home. :)

Ask questions. Open ended ones give more room for a personal, elaborate answer.
