Im not inexperienced. ive had a number of girlfriends in the past, am not a virgin or scared of things getting physical or anything like that. other than this (what feels like) paralyzing hesitation, have good communication skills, am friends with many girls and am the kind of person that (like a lot of others) is very shy at first, but once i warm up to someone im very engaging and really likes getting to know people.

i was in a pseudo (long distance) relationship for a while and her and i just decided to cool it until we are able to be in the same place (likely not for at least 8 months). i know and meet girls fairly regularly who i totally should be engaging with more (asking for numbers, or even just making a move when i can tell a girl likes me), but i have been doubting myself so much i find myself spending time thinking and hesitating when i should just step up and make a move. ive always been somewhat shy around girls, but usually im able to get over it and just man up and make a move when i really feel the girl is worth the risk (of rejection i guess? have been trying to pinpoint what exactly it is that im so scared of or hesitating about).

ive been in a few situations over the past few weekends where i can tell a girl is at least into me, and i should have just leaned in and gone for a kiss, or asked them to come home with me and it likely would have gone in my favour, and in reality even if they declined it wouldnt have been the end of the world, but instead i just kinda freeze and the moment passes and i go home kicking myself for not going for it. i seem to be having more trouble than usual getting over this fear and just making a move.

i think i feel a bit obligated to the girl who lives far away, even though her and i have talked about being with other people and she is very supportive of both of us doing what we want. i also smoke pot regularly (and have for many years) and have been thinking recently that being stoned (or even somewhat burnt out from having smoked earlier in the day) is keeping me a bit more in my head than i should be and stopping me from just going with things and making a move when the opportunity presents itself.

this is becoming really frustrating for me, and i can feel my opportunity slipping away with a few girls im interested in, as they can feel my awkwardness and are likely to meet someone else at some point. in addition to that, i think i am making it worse by thinking about it too much, which is perpetuating the problem. im sure im not the only person to experience this. any advice on how to overcome?

like i said, i am totally fine around these girls to talk and flirt and whatever but when it comes to making a move or making it obvious that i want them, i get quiet, and shit gets awkward and the moment passes. help?

TL; DR - i have great game but when it comes to closing the deal i freeze up, crash and burn
