First time poster, here goes nothing. 22 y/o white male. 5'6.5, 145 lbs.

EDIT: Sorry for the wall of text. TL;DR upfront. Short, white, very good looking, smart, personable male can't bring himself to hit on girls for fear of offending them/being ridiculed by friends.

I cannot seem to figure out what my problem is with women. I think I know, but I'm not sure. I recognize that I'm short, but I am (supposedly) very good looking and get constant references to celebrities, specifically ryan seacrest. I'm in decent shape, in no way built, but I'm working on that as my metabolism has only recently allowed me to put on weight without uncomfortably stuffing myself to the brim 24/7.

Every aspect of my life seems to be in order. I have a great family and a lot of good friends. My confidence in professional matters is stellar as I've been elected president (most by landslide) of every organization I've been a part of since high school, which includes some orgs >250 people. I am generally considered very mature, funny and personable. Additionally, I'll be starting my medical education at a top school in the fall so I'll have the whole M.D. thing working for me, as shallow as that sounds.

I graduated with over a 3.9 as an engineer from a top California school and many of my friends have said I am one of the smartest people they've ever met and also that I am one of the greatest conversationalists they know as I can easily discuss a wide variety of topics from culture to politics to hist

ory. Mostly though, this comes from my reading of Dale Carnegie books that have taught me to listen and ask questions rather than talk. I believe that my intelligence leads me to way overanalyze things, though.

Unfortunately, none of these positive traits ever seem to turn into a relationship or even a one night stand. I'm a very "nice guy" in that I can't turn people down for a favor and constantly give people leeway when they fuck up. I also never ask anyone to do me any favors because I don't want them to see me as needy.

I feel bad putting the moves on girls or being pushy because I feel immensely guilty for days or even weeks if I do anything even remotely rude or embarrassing which really prevents me from doing anything "out of the ordinary" for me. Just last week I was in a bar and this pretty girl grabbed my hand (to dance) and I couldn't bring myself to do it because my friends were around and I didn't want them to see me dance. This is mostly because I cultivate this careful and precise persona. It's mostly in my head, I believe, but I can't seem to get over it.

I want people around me to feel wanted and appreciated and I act as though they are, but it leads me to be, for lack of a better word, a pussy. Its not the rejection that bothers me, but rather that others think I'm a loser or a pervert for taking a shot at a girl. Also, my height has begun to bother me a lot the last few months although it never bothered me when I didn't think about it in previous years. I never realized, because of my social standing, that I am literally looking up at all of my friends until recently. This is surprising because years ago I took a number of girls from their boyfriends who were all much taller than I.

Can anyone give me any advice on what I need to do to man up or at least be less paranoid about being rejected? I feel like I'm so close to being worthwhile, but that I'm missing some huge portion of human interaction that's necessary. I seem to be able to easily engage and impress anyone that I want to except for girls that I want to date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, whether it be with anecdotes, readings, or a swift kick in the ass. Thank you very much and I appreciate your consideration.
