Why would you possibly think it's too fast? You're not asking to marry her! The point of a date is to get to know her in an environment where you can escalate.
Next time you see her you tell her "I like you. I want to take you out on a date." I like the word date because it lets her know you don't just want to friends, whereas inviting her to something otherwise might not be clear. Change the wording so it's congruent to you though.
