I know what you mean especially when you get older it gets harder to make friends etc. What I do is find a common interest e.g. fishing. If they are into it then I ask about where they like to go etc. Then I will either invite myself or invite them to join me in doing said activity. Guys do not open up to other guys so if you can find a reason to hang out then it's acceptable to them.
