So I lead small-group for first year medical students every other week, it's pretty informal, we meet at the library and they come ask me questions etc. We've only met once so far. A solid HB 8-8.5 came in a few minutes late, when I was already sitting at the end of the table. She wasn't indicating disinterest, but she wasn't indicating a whole bunch of interest either. Just pretty mutual. After I lead a group discussion for about 20 minutes I get up to draw/explain something at the white board, and when she realized that I'm 6'4 I'm pretty sure I could see her eyes widen a little bit. She's about 5'10, and I slouch. I know a lot of girls have no interest in guys shorter or equal height, and tall girls struggle with finding really tall guys. Off topic, sorry.

She emails me 3 days later asking if we could meet up on Sunday night, because she is struggling with some anatomy (I shit you not, as many times as I've used an anatomy pickup line, I laughed when I saw that email). I say sure, and give her my phone number, tell her I probably won't be at the computer on Sunday, but to text me and I'll let her know what time is best for me. I wish I hadn't done this. Now it is putting me in a situation where I know that I got her number because she is supposed to be my student, not because she wanted to hang out socially.

She comes in to that study session (late again) looking like she was ready to go out to a club. Nice clothes on, full makeup, hair wasn't fancy, but had been attended to. I didn't ask where she was before that, so she may have been somewhere nice. I explained one thing to her, took about 10 minutes, and then we sat there and talked about non-school related life things for 3 fucking hours. It only felt like MAYBE one hour. I couldn't believe it.

She invited me out tonight, but it was a pre-planned celebratory party that she is going to be at with a bunch of her friends, whom I have never met. That's usually not a problem, but I would usually prefer to go out one-on-one before I go out with her and a large group, unless at least half of that group is mutual acquaintances. So I told her maybe next week we could do something, no specifics yet.

So here's my question: Basically, what would you do? We've exchanged a few texts, with long breaks in between each. I guess I'm just hooked up on the fact that we sat and talked for three hours, in a fucking library. That's not something I would have thought I would ever do, ever. So does it matter that she's my student? If we date and it ends badly, I could be out of a job if she complains that she doesn't feel comfortable coming to me for help anymore. Pretty sure there's no university rule against it though, since I'm not handing out grades.
