Just started college. Need advice on starting interactions with women.

It’s the same if you just want a girl to be your friend. And by that i mean that you don’t want to layer transition from friends into something romantic. If you are hoping to lead things romantic then you need to be more direct and show intent.

Don’t make the mistake of trying to act like a friend first hoping it will lead into something romantic or sexual later because you will just be putting yourself in the friendzone and women will date or sleep with other guys who are more clear about what they want from the beginning

It's execution.

It's saying "howdy partner" and shooting at her with your finger guns. If you do that and own it, it's funny and endearing - if you do that and don't own it, it's cringe. You know that but you won't 'risk' it because you're unsure if you can deliver on it.

You have to understand that everything you say is judged with the same criteria. You don't 'get away' with saying 'safe' things like you've suggested. It's the same degree of 'risk' - you're still being judged on your character. You can't skimp out on the delivery because the content is tame - you can't bring that 'limp dick energy' - that's when it gets into 'friendzone' territory.

In a sense, it's 'go hard or go home'. Being 'safe', 'fitting in', not trying to establish yourself as 'alpha' or a 'leader' in any way, not showing any 'edge' or having to demonstrate any self-esteem, etc. may give you false feedback. It may give you a sense that girls like you, which they do but not sexually. They want the guy with self-esteem, the guy who's 'cool', the guy who isn't afraid to 'stand out' and that takes us back to "howdy partner".
