some people are totally open to touch. some aren't. some in between.

i have opened with a hug a few times and got to making out in under a minute, before any words were even exchanged. key thing: as long as they're still enjoying it, keep doing it. don't stop a hug at 30 seconds because your brain told you that they're not supposed to last that long; only stop if they're signalling that they're done.

another tme, i went on like, 10 dates, and they were still uncomfortable with most forms of touch. hugging for ~0.5 seconds with hips apart was okay, and holding hands across a table was okay. that's about it. (i never ended up having sex with her. we're friends now, and she's still like this with people she has had sex with, though.)

so, part of it is your ability to escalate quickly, and part of it is on their end.

destroy the touch barrier immediately. hold their hand a little too long when you meet them, keep holding it while you are talking to them and LOOK THEM IN THE EYE. Hug them, high five them, put your arm around them, play with their hair, etc. Don't be rough and maul them but also put their hands on you, if they're not reaching out.
