You have missed the entire point of Mark Manson's "Models." I suggest you re-read the entire book.

There is no creation of any sort of persona. The whole point of his book is that you need to create a genuine and truthful representation of what you really want out of life. If you want a girl, or if you are interested, you should express that desire unappologetically in a non-verbal way. It should also be coupled with an internal barometer of your "inner game," meaning you should be aware of whether or not your desire for this girl is the basis of your happiness, or whether your happiness is derived from internal state (the preferred method).

2) a man actually is less invested in her (genuine non-neediness).

Again, you have missed the entire point. The state of desiring a woman is not needy. You acting in a manner that is contrary to your inner state is neediness. If you act in a way that is parallel to your inner state, with the modifier that your inner state is derived from an ultimate sense of your own self-worth and a belief of your worthiness of love, you act in a completely non-needy way. Expressing your desire for a woman is not by itself needy. Expecting a woman to be the source of your happiness is itself needy. That is the core principal.
