The best thing I've learned is the door method:

Basically you approach a group with a very high energy 'hello', 'hey' or whatever comes up. In every group there will always be someone who responds more enthusiastically and receptively than the rest—she'll be your 'door' into the group. After saying 'hey' you're going to start talking to her (ie. the 'door') by following up with any random shit (ex. "how do you guys know this place?", "are you students around here?" or whatever). It doesn't really matter if she's not the gal you're interested in because once you've chitchatted with here you can simply transition from one girl to another by asking 'How do you girls know each other?". It's a really no-risk question and you'll immediately bring someone else into the conversation [and you can do this over and over again by saying things like 'do you also know Anne and Marcy from XYZ?" to someone you weren't previously talking to].

Isolate is ez.. when you get attraction and then she starts asking Comfort questions.. you can say:

"Can i borrow you friend for a minute?"

Then go to a sit-down location
