Here is my theory, text messages can be great to just chat her up/tease her but when it comes to setting up a date just call her. It's a little easier to attract her actually speaking to her, and she can't ignore the question when you bring up getting together. If you just got her email or facebook try to get her to give you her phone number via that method.

Disclaimer: I don't really employ any "methods" picking up girls, I have just been 10x more successful calling than texting.
