I've started doing game midway through first year (this year). Just go out a lot, meet new people and do activities. The more people you know the better opportunities.

Dont force it. Just focus on being a grounded and cool person to be around. Your character will take you places, so act like a dick and you will reap what you sew. It's not bad to have more guy friends than girls at this point. My guy friends introduced me to some of the best girls I met and ended up building relationships with.

The fall of your freshman year is extreme important and I mean EXTREMELY. Bonds and social circles have t been formed, friendships may have faded over the holidays.
At that moment everyone is sober looking to cr ate or expand thier circle of friends. You have to be. Very active during this period.
Attend every orientation/seminar/meeting/party. No jokes. Be as socially active as you can.
No gaming no time to unpack you really have to hit the ground running. Approach people, smile and have a very open and approachable aura around you. And get familiar with all the locations around university (most people approaching you would be asking for directions anyway and it's a good way to introduce yourself).
Hit the gym extra hard this summer and to use solely on your social life September and October early October.
Trust me by November/December, if you follow through your, you won't regret it. I was the guy holding an Xbox controller first weekend in school and I regret it so much cos personally, I don't think it gets any easier than fall of your freshman year.
Good luck mate.

You will make friends throughout your college years. It may be easier the first few weeks but don't put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel like you have to meet everyone. It will come together if you are genuine although it may take a semester. This too shall pass

The best advice I can give is be a "yes man". Someone invites you to a party, but you don't really want to attend? Go anyways. Always be looking for ways to meet people. A mistake I made my first semester was only going places that I was invited to by an attractive girl. As a result, I didn't go out very often. Now I will never turn down a party invite, and my social life is much better because of this.
