There's a saying when it comes to relationships: "Talk like best friends, play like children, argue like husband and wife, protect each other like brother and sister."

I'm having trouble with the "playing" part and am totally stuck on this one point.

There's a girl who I'm becoming close to but I'm having trouble keeping things fresh when it comes to play flirting on a physical level.

She isn't ticklish (or maybe I just don't know how to tickle correctly) but regardless, it gets old poking and tickling her repeatedly all night and not having any other ideas about how to engage her in a playful way. Not to mention people become desensitized to tickling relatively quickly in most cases anyway.

Any other ideas here on how to engage her physically in a playful way to keep things from getting too boring? I should mention that she's pretty shy.

Firstly, you come off sounding as if you're doing this to please her rather than just doing what you want to do.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I've kind of started viewing girls like my personal playground. When I say this, I don't mean using her as monkey bars or seesaws or something... I've started just doing stuff for my own entertainment. A very good example is when I'm going down on a girl, I feel like it's almost a game of how I can make her lose her mind the most. So I'm almost laughing inside, as she goes crazy.

As a result, I've found that playing has become more free and now feels fresher for myself, which in turn makes it feel fresh and fun for the girl.

The funny thing is that I've actually been very aware of the prudence of doing things for your own amusement for a really long time, but one day, it pretty much just clicked for me and became a part of my mentality in dealing with girls.

But as for actual tips... I like picking her up and swinging her around and stuff. Does she do anything that reminds you of a certain animal? Playfully make fun of the things she does and the way she acts. Perhaps you can think up a funny name for her in relation to this.

It doesn't have to be complicated as long as you enjoy it. Basically, that's what a child does. They kind of just do what feels funny to them in the moment. They don't overthink it.
