I usually wait 3-5 days after the first date, call and organise the next one for a week later. But often, the girl will reach out before I contact her. If she reaches out before me, I organise the next date then, but still a week in advance.

I usually bring things we can do together in the first date, doing that it's easier to schedule a second date by phone.
Just text her, hey le'ts cook together this new recipe I've being trying, I'm in charge of the wine, you are in charge of the dessert!

I did that, there are several possibilities. I just dont know when is too soon to contact to schedule, and how far out to schedule for

Did you kiss? Did you have sex? What did you do on the first date? There is no strict rule it depends a lot of how well the date went.
I usually text them just after the date, "hey text me when you arrive home" if they took a taxi. To break the barrier.
If you had an inside joke you can text them the next day bringing that.
If your text makes her smile and reminds her of the good moment she had with you, you can text her whenever you want.
I usually schedule a a second date for the next week, that's my rule as if you schedule for the same week it will seem that you don't have things to do, or that she is too important.

We made out and did the home safely text, and i received a warm goodnight text and she said 'it awesome to meet me'. I did make a suggestion that we hang out the next day during the date (which may have been a bad idea, but it wasnt a formal date we met randomly at a show and she came back to my place for a while) and havent heard back since the goodnight text, so that probably should be taken into context too.
