Here in Stockholm people keep to themselves, until you go up to them. Then it's almost like someone flipped a switch. They act like I'm their friend. Sure, I've had my fair share of awkward interactions. But those were people I probably wouldn't get along with anyway.

The whole taboo thing is like Santa. Everybody pretends like it's a real fucking thing and we all laugh about it, but once you barely scrape the surface you instantly realize it's all bullshit. Don't use it as an excuse, it's way fucking overblown. It may or may not be harder than in the US but cold approaching on the street still works.

I wonder how applicable it is to Scandinavian culture given that its largely made for Americans.

It's not as different as you seem to think. More or less everything in the sidebar and in books is perfectly applicable here too.

have you been in the US? I have. And it's no more socially acceptible to approach publicly there than it is anywhere in Europe. In fact, it is probably easier in Scandanavia because there are less peddlers out there than in other parts of Europe, so you will have less of a hard time stopping girls. It's tabboo everywhere, but really just an excuse not to do it.

I have met girls in Stockholm (I am from England) and I would say its no different to anywhere anywhere else on earth. If anything I found it easier than London! :)

We swedes like our personal space as people like to claim. However I'm yet to receive any sort of "negative" reaction from a daytime approach on any busy street.

It being taboo is just bs, hung out with some daygamers from the UK 2 years ago and they kinda told me, grow a pair and just do it, if they don't like it, fuck it, aim for the next one.

Most people around here are just scared, the amount of stories of creeps going around make people stick to themselves or their own groups and every outsider is scary and will kill them etc.
