Eventually you'll run into a cranky bitch who will complain. Might not even be someone you approached. When it happens, be friendly and easy-going with security. They've encountered crazy whiners before, it's part of the job.

Also, it helps if you look like a customer rather than a loiterer.

The more hours you put into a place, the less you look like a customer. That's hard to avoid, mall security will start to recognize you after a while even without complaints.
