It's more how you say it then what you say.

I'd wager your body language was incongruent with what you were saying. The lines themselves are fine, they'll land when you have the proper execution.

I would wager a guess that your kino, and body language sucked. She was probably one of those girls who are very kinesthetic, and a guy with a more dierct, touchy , "caveman" style won over your finesse game.

I'm sitting on my couch right now watching my roommates cat thoroughly clean herself, she really is a pro, lick the paw, paw the head, repeat. Anyway, I feel like she put you in a position of need, even though the answers about the job situation that were given seemed clever, any kind of answer along the lines wouldn't work. If a girl tried putting me in a similar situation either I'd realize what's up and make her work harder to put her number in my phone or if I didn't care I'd go ahead and use three words that work like a charm, "just do it." I say it in an almost annoyed kinda loud voice, "ugh, just do it...and hurry up." It blows my mind how far that dumb line has gotten me; people want your acceptance, and that line is just a compliance test. Honestly though, if you're just after the number, the line will work, if you're after the girl...move on to the next one.
