Uhh. This is really kind of confusing. But I can give it a shot..

I mean, on a subprimal level, you could be showing dominance, but even some rage when you do this. In the world of animals, more specifically lions in a pack, if the Alpha male was being tested for control of the pride, he and the challenger would fight for it. You can see their nostrils flare to allow the maximum amount of oxygen into their system, allowing them to become hyper alert to their sorrundings.

Same thing with humans today. Flaring your nostrils is a sign of dominance and power (most of the time). I wouldn't rely on it often though. This is such a small, obscure cue that I doubt you are closing with women because of that.

I never have heard a woman saying, "He was cute and all... But that nostril flare! That got me going."
