How is it going, Seddit?
I'm a 21 year old, 6''4 guy. As you can guess I wasn't always a good dancer. When I came into the party scene three years ago I just stepped to the side a little bit, like in the movie Hitch. I was doing the same move for hours, but I could already really enjoy dancing.
I love techno and house music, so you will find me in venues where they play that music and I listen to it all the time at home. At home I dance all the time at various moments. Sometimes I just play music very loud for an hour and go bananas. I advise you to do the same. By letting myself go everyday I subconsiously practised my moves. Trying new moves, figuring out what works and what doesn't. It's also a good workout and gets the energy flowing. Gets me in state.
When you are actually in a venue, don't be afraid to look at other dudes dancing. Obviously you shouldn't copy his whole style of dancing. But like with fashion, if you see something you like, incoperate it to your own 'repertoire', so to say. This one time on a festival this guy was killing it. He had the sickest moves and invited everybody to this crew, which resulted in like 50 people being best friends for a couple of hours and dancing their asses off. This was like 6:30 in the morning. I stole some moves from the guy and gave my own twist to it. Those moves somehow opened up a lot more moves for me.
I have girls coming up to me and asking me to teach them the way I dance. I even get compliments from dudes too. I can do all kinds of cool moves and have boatloads of fun doing them so my confidence is very high when I'm out dancing. It sucks that escalating on the dancefloor is my sticking point, but I do get a lot of interest from my dancing.
Just like the guy on the festival I always try to get a big ass party crew together with friends and people I met on the floor. Lots of guys and girls going apeshit with some bantering from time to time. It will look like 'your' crew owns the place. You WILL see girls positioning themself next to you as they wanna join in on the fun, it's not a coincedence.
TL;DR: Dance every day at home. Don't be afraid to look at other dudes dancing while you're out. You will get better with time. Dancing is fun and if you think so too it should be a big part of your life, if you ask me.
P.S English is not my first language. However I do read a lot of English literature and want to practise my writing. I hope this post is readable, and I certainly appreciate any tips.
All the best,
Strongr
