So I went for a run for the first time in several months today. Lately I've gotten sick and out of shape, and my life hasn't exactly been great. But I decided I wanted to get back into really good shape again and so I decided to do a couch to 5k program because there's an easy app my friend recommended to me.
So I was on my run, and I was getting a little bit tired, and I thought to myself, "why am I doing this?" And I realized that in the past every time I had done a sport or worked out it was for other people. For example, I played football for a few years at the beginning of high school and really, really hated it and as such wasn't good at all and didn't put the work in to get better. I played football not for myself, but to try to attract girls and become more popular. I realize know that was silly though, because being bad at football isn't going to get you girls, it's just going to get you laughed at, but I digress.
So I was on the run, asking myself why I was doing this, and I finally realized I should be running for myself, not for other people. I shouldn't run and work out so that other people will like me, I should run and work out so that I feel good and look good. This in turn will bring me more confidence and make me happier.
tl;dr: Run and exercise for yourself, not for other people.
