Here's some better advice when it comes to texting: match her efforts. If she replies fast - so can you. If she takes a long time - then it's okay to wait too.

Don't wait long time, just don't pressure yourself to text back instantly and don't invest too much in texting game. But you should definitely keep in touch, in most cases.

Just to add, I had a girl i would text often and we knew we would be meeting up soon (we normally are 20 hours away) as soon as I get close she stops talking to me more than just 1-3 messages a day

You absolutely shouldn't be playing these games where you intentionally wait to text. This might make her think you aren't interested, are playing games, she might lose that feeling for you, or she will text another guy. Instead just don't text her immediately like you are hanging on her every text. Texting tends to happen in bursts so if she is texting fast and the conversation is popping then text fast too. And if it slows down its okay to text slower too plus you should have things to do anyway. Maybe apologize for not getting back to her and make up some emergency at work.
