I find texting someone that is already a friend is working well for me. Just by sending flirty texts or jokes I'm getting good responses.

I added a girl to facebook who I've talked to very briefly on an almost daily basis. She serves me coffee in the morning on the way to work. I felt that there was already attraction building so I just went for it. I would have asked her out in person but she was off work today.

I added her and messages her right away. Just poking a bit of fun at her because she wasn't working today. It quickly became sexual and now I'm bringing her home to meet the wife on Saturday night.

I think this technology shouldn't be dismissed too quickly. If you do it right, it can work well for you. You just have to have a reason for texting. Be it a joke, or to add to a previous conversation.
