Dude, people aren't robots. This is context-dependent and there is no magic formula for you to deal with the group.

If you're curious about her, demonstrate that. Rather than asking very generic, surface-level questions, try to find out who she really is. Find out if she's worth your time. If the only time you see her is with the group, try to isolate as soon as you can, even if that means getting contact information and inviting her out later.

Engaging the group isn't hard; they're just other students like you. Just talk to them.

Look, if you haven't even talked to her before, then information about her studies, is not what to open with.

You start with, "Hi," and name introductions. Then ask what she studies. Easy.

Where to go from there? You LISTEN actively to what she answers when you ask what she studies. Like don't think about anything while she's talking, other than listening to her words. Then you think about what she said after she finishes, and use what she said in an answer.

One interesting way to go, is to investigate her motivations and emotions. Why she did something or how she feels about it.

Sounds like bullshit to me. If someone is giving "one word answers" then you are giving them one word answer questions. There is no way that someone could answer a question like, "Why did you choose that major?" in one word and if anyone found a way to do that, then they're not worth talking to, probably.

No. First off, you don't "deal with a group," you open them and start talking to them as a group. Seduction is socializing. So if you really want to be better at it, then socialize.

Secondly, there's no way to give you some "in depth detail from start to end" about how a group conversation could go. Just get in there and talk to them. And let go of any expectations, because interacting with the group is going to come before any goals you may have to chat with that girl one on one.
