Question.... why is feeling good from validation bad and so looked down upon in this community and self-help?

I was just reading a book called “Be Nobody” and it mentions how being liked, getting validation, etc is an insatiable drive of ego. I assume meaning no matter how much the ego gets it’s never enough. That makes sense to me. I see it as like no matter how many people like you in the world, you would still seek it out. I understand.

My question is.... well we usually feel pretty good when we are liked. For example, when someone gives you a compliment or likes your photos or your profile picture does over 200 likes, you get this good feeling of people admiring you, giving you attention etc.

Is the goal to not feel good when you get that? But to feel neither good or bad ?

Now, as long as it can make you feel good, what’s wrong in chasing it? To me validation seems like a drug you can’t overdose on. You post more, people like your stuff and it makes you feel good. I would feel bad I suppose if not as many people liked it and I get that could be an issue. I would be putting a lot of energy and time into getting more likes and my rationale would be, “if a majority of people like my stuff, it is likely to probably hold true for other people too” so if I’m dressing good and getting better feedback on social media, the next girl I meet will likely think I dress good.

So ... if it feels good to be validated, what’s wrong seeking it?

I’ve heard things like oh you should validate yourself, but I don’t feel the same high and good feeling as when it’s from someone else. Is this a process that needs to be changed? Should I be feeling as good, if not better, from a self affirmation of “damn my style is cool”

Generally, is it ideal to become unphased by negative or positive feedback? I don’t think that’s human...

Don’t all our direction for our behaviours come generally from positive/negative feedback from the world? As we put ourself out there more, we are getting more feedback. So what’s wrong with feeling good from positive validation from others?

Also, if you think seeking validation is bad, my question to you is do you have social media like Facebook, Instagram etc and if you do, what’s your motivation for posting, sharing etc?
