I live in a very touristic little beachy town.

Sometimes I'd approach a girl, start a conversation and the attraction would be obvious. We would exchange numbers but in the subsequent conversation we would find out that because of logistics (my work schedule, their travel schedule, or both) seeing each other again won't be possible. Because they are leaving very soon to another city or back to their homes.

When that happens I'd stay pretty chill. I'd congratulate myself for having connected her and having had an unexpectedly good time with a stranger.

At the end I'd say/text something like: "Hey, it was nice meeting you. Have a nice trip back to [her country]".

And then I would continue my day without even thinking about seeing her again.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

But then, most of the times they'd text/say: "It was nice to meet you. I'm sure we will see each other again soon 😉". Or even they be more specific like: "See you in winter", or "see you next year".

That's a lot of time and I wouldn't even be that confident about seeing each other again.

I had never travel abroad and said that to any woman I met.

Because the future is uncertain and soon there would be thousands of miles between us or an infinite number of touristic destinations to visit with huge loads of other women (or men in their case) to hang out with. So I'd prefer not to share with her any hopes about seeing each other again.

But why would these girls tell me this? What does this means for them? Are they really coming back soon? Is it just a desire expressed out loud? Is it a promise?
