An alpha action doesn't depend on the actual action, but the place that you're coming from as you do it. Holding a girl's bag isn't necessarily beta. It's only beta if you're doing it to try to win approval or validation. (e.g. "if I hold this bag she'll like me more", instead of simply "I'll hold this bag")

If someone asks you "hey can you pass the salt", do you think it would be alpha to respond, "FUCK YOU WHORE I WON'T DO SHIT FOR YOU UNLESS YOU SUCK MY COCK RIGHT NOW". Yes, I'm massively exaggerating, but you get the point.

The difference between the "nice guy" and a nice guy is that the "nice guy" acts nice because he has an ulterior motive. He's either needy for validation, or he's trying to win approval by doing favors and hoping it'll result in sex. The nice guy is just being nice for the sake of being nice. The "nice guy" is being nice for the sake of some ulterior motive.

Being alpha simply means doing what you want, when you want. Of course this doesn't mean you rape a girl because "hurr durr I'm alpha me want sex now". It's simply about respecting yourself and being assertive. Assertive does not necessarily mean aggressive, however.

nice != beta. Know your boundaries, set them, and stick to them. Beta is when you start making excuses for someone's shitty behavior and accepting it like a little bitch. "Nice guys finish last" because most guys don't know how to stop being nice when they have to be.
