What is the difference between doing the whole "approach machine" thing, and simply approaching every hot girl you see?

This is presenting an incorrect dichotomy. The approach machines ARE approaching every hot girl they see. The alternative is to focus on being social. With everyone. The benefit being, if you wait until you see a girl you are attracted to, then you're going in cold. Versus if you simply start talking to guys, old women, unattractive women, to warm up.

I have seen people on these kind of forums who bash guys who think just approaching like 30 women a day is how you get good. While I can understand why that might not be the best way to improve, what's the difference between doing that, and simply approaching every hot girl you see to try and score with her?

Because practice doesn't make perfect. As RSD Todd once said (or his father, actually), practice makes permanent. What you're doing in approaching hot girl after hot girl, is engraining habits. Not perfecting something you didn't already know how to do.

So if you have learned a new concept and you go try it out, that might work. Or if you're trying to overcome approach anxiety, then sure, approach. But if your issues are technique based and you currently suck then simply repeating approaches is probably limited in helpfulness.

Meaning that you'd need to pick up a concept to work on specifically to address the technique problem you have, rather than simply butting your head against the wall.

I have found that in the last 30 approaches I made (not in the same day, mind you) I've had a success rate of slightly higher than 1/10...say 1/8. That logically means that if I approach a hot girl, there's a 1/8 chance I will get a date with her.

And how many second dates are you getting? How long are your runs with girls typically?

In an ideal situation , it would be cool to just talk to the hot girls. But there are some advantages to the approach machine tactic. 1. It gives you lots of practice with starting interactions. 2. It puts you into a social state of mind. It kind of removes this invisible barrier that exists in your mind between you and other people. 3. It helps you that hot girls are no different instead of building up the importance of it in your head.If you chat up 5 average looking girls, chatting up the hot one will feel exactly the same. Except you actually get her number ect.

how about just approaching people to make a new friend?

I find it disheartening when approach is focused on women, the goal is to be more social. When you ONLY approach women, not only do you miss out on badass potential networking opps, but you look like you're on the prowl, or pouncing... thirsty!

talk to everyone, man. be the social guy in the room.

The point is you approach everyday and study your work and what you do out there. You should improve yourself until you are satisfied with your results.
