Hello peeps, I've been trying my hand at chatting with women and hit some blocks that I'm confused about. A little history, I'm 22 and was pretty chubby and had low self esteem all throughout HS and finally had enough and with a push from my roommate I've been working out since thanksgivings and now I'm healthy and fit. Also been doing some reading on the side in between sessions. I've noticed I get a bit more attention from women now and there's something thats been bugging me about girls and some concepts.

Anyways there is this girl (18F) at work I'm into, let's call her A. I asked her out and she agreed but then changed her mind cause she had a boyfriend. I was cool about it and went about my day talking with other women. I still flirted and chatted with A cause I wanted to practice and I like chatting with her cause we have similar likes. Also I figured she'd like some attention and didn't refuse my advances.

So about a month and a half in she starts to show some interest in me. One day she brushed up against me and I held her and almost made out with her but stopped myself cause I thought I was being a dirt bag. I avoided her and kept our talks short for about a week and limited our encounters. However when I got back she would go out of her way to chat with me and low key would hint I should show up at her place.

I found this jarring and confusing. I was super into this girl and she seemed interested too but then went cold, I wanna know where her head's at. So my questions are:

-If she already had a BF why'd she bother agreeing to a date with me, she was super excited at first and it's like she suddenly remembered she had a boyfriend and couldn't go out with me.

-She never mentions her BF when she's around me, one time she was chatting with her friend about her BF and I overheard and showed up and she instantly stopped and started to chat with me. Also she lives with her BF but acts like he doesn't exist. She tells me she lives with her best friend but I heard through the grape vine thats not the case. I feel like she wants to keep my interest but why?

-Why is it when I ignore her as an option she suddenly starts to put herself in front of me, I get the feeling I'm the backup guy but I'm trying to understand what's going on in her head

-I'm pretty sure I'm the back up guy, how's this usually play out and how do I manage it. I'm not opposed to keeping her as an option down the line but what do I do right now.
