The funny thing is, that post doesn't really go against the big picture of self improvement, and instead focuses on the incorrect applications

For instance, getting out of the self-improvement cycle. Much of the advice from the experienced guys here would agree: stop relying on self help books and reading FR's and over-analyzing "what should I say situation x y z" and start going out and actually doing those things. No amount of reading can substitute for the real experience of interacting with a real human being

The other point is also true: you can't disappear and self-improve yourself and one day come back a superhero like Batman. The big picture takeaway of self improvement, however, isn't that - it's that all too many men put women on a pedestal which brings out the neediness and desperation that turns women off. Instead, the self improvement is meant to help men with low confidence and low self-esteem find passion in their life and in areas they may have been shut out from (or did not know about) that do not involve validation from women. When you no longer seek validation from women and when you have confidence that you actually do enjoy the life you live, unsurprisingly, your confidence and ability to not care about rejection increases dramatically, making everything else easier.
