So after a short marriage of under 7 years, no kids no assets no finances to speak of, divorce has happened and a divorced friend advised we get a consent order to prevent any future claims. I would like a clean break consent order, and the terms have been agreed between us in principle.

I have spoken with a lawyer today who advised that, if any assets were gained from now on (for example inheritance, a house or a higher salary, for either party) then a claim could arise but would be easily defeated as the asset was gained post-marriage.

The problem I am facing is a consent order is hundreds or thousands to prepare, and even if drafted there is no obligation on the other party to agree or sign the papers - I want to avoid a full blown financial order which will cost thousands on both sides.

Anyone got any input or advice on this? Will try legal advice forum as well.
