So I'm scrambled right now. My wife has all but asked for a divorce. And I think I would agree to it if I was guaranteed 50/50 with our 3 young kids. We live in Texas. Here are the specs:

  • I would attempt to pay off and remain in our current home. I believe I would be able to obtain the funds from family. I don't think she'd be able to. I believe this would help me as a way to keep consistency with the kids school and friends/social lives.
  • She has a highly demanding job that requires her to leave town for a week at a time roughly every 3 months.
  • I have been more than involved as a dad. I make lunches, drive to and from school, coach sports teams etc.
  • She drinks every day. I use marijuana and psilocybin very sparingly.
  • She is the bread winner. She makes 2x what I do.
  • The cause for divorce would be irreconcilable differences. No infidelity, abuse, etc.

Have any of you been in this situation and can you lend any tips for handling it/achieving split custody? I would love to hear from someone as this is completely uncharted territory for me and the situation has become realer than ever, so as I mentioned, I'm very scrambled emotionally. TIA anyone.
