Im with you. Alimony was created whe women were mostly homemakers. Child support I fully support if fair(its not) but alimony needs to stop.

The custom and more importantly the law dates back to the time when dowries were a thing. The dowry was brought to the husband by the bride's family as a means to sweeten the deal for the man to take care of the wife. Women were largely seen as property for many a century. Only in the last century have women become more equal to men. IMHO there was a reason women were put under such controls, but I'll leave that for you to decide. Their hypergamy was put in check by the rules and customs of society at the time. Today those rules and customs are no longer- women are free to, without consequence, to jump from one relationship to another to feed their addiction to the feel good of new relationships and the rush of cheating. I shouldn't have to point out that men have our faults too, you all know what I mean. But women are just as sinful as the rest. Their motivations and processes are just different.

The trade off was since women were treated as lesser than men, there was protection put in place to not abandon them and their children. Now fast forward to today, those protections are no longer needed due to women having equality to men. The government has safety nets for all of its citizens to not starve. Women just need to work equally like men and they can prosper. Except there's the problem right there. Equality is a double edged sword. In short women today want the equality of today but with all the benefits of what women were given in the past. To have their cake and eat it too.

What we are seeing today are the growing pains of change and at this moment in time allimony is just one of the many things that are unbalanced. Over the course of time our laws will catch up but only if we work to make it happen. Men have to band together to change family laws.
