One thing that bothers me about these zombie apocalypse movies is that the situation rapidly deteriorates in a few days to a point where a cure is pointless. Yet the protagonists press on as if they are going to save humanity.

Why would the possibly smartest scientist still alive AND one of the only surviving military servicemen willingly die for these strangers? The world needed him a lot more than it needed those two.

Woman and her son walk up: hey we have the cure to the plague. Mayor of Survivortown: Wow! Amazing! How did you make it? Woman: we didn't. We met a scientist who did. Mayor: well where is he? We need to know how he generated the cure and whether to apply it via air or bloodstream. Also the minimum dosage and how to replicate the formula. We dont have any chemists or biologists in our camp. Woman: well, he died to save us. Mayor: why? Are you an expert in something? Is the cure in your blood? Are you immune? Woman: no. Im just a mom trying to save her son. Mayor: Yea, well fuck the rest of humanity then huh?

Check out the 1975 movie "A boy and his dog" for a very different post-apocalyptic sci fi. A young Don Johnson starred. Loved the ending.
