I have played and loved Jrpgs since I was very young. I haven't played a huge number of them, mostly more popular outings like Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10, 12. Chrono Cross, some of Chrono Trigger. Tales of Symphonia 1 and 2, etc.
I started Tales of Berseria Tonight and I have been loving most of it so far. You play as a protagonist named Velvet, who in a break from typical Tales games, is a protagonist out for revenge against a man who took everything she cared for from her.
The one problem I have with the game so far is the beginning is really slow. It establishes a relationship with Velvet and her brother, Laphicet (who, btw I thought was a girl because gender bending) but I enjoyed it. It really draws you in to their sibling bond, and when you get to the end of the prologue, it's some fucked up shit that you watch. Otherwise the combat is pretty fun, and the game takes it step by step since it has a lot of different systems to work now since it's a newer Tales game.
I'd recommend it so far from the story alone, but if any of you have played it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the game. Please keep spoilers to a bare minimum, I've only gotten to Northgand!

I really need to try the Trails games. Keep hearing they're great.
One of my recent all-time favorites is the Persona series, specifically 4 and 5. Never played another game even remotely like those, and the stories are phenomenal.
