I wish I could say the same but my situation is quite the complete opposite. I love my dad, don't get me wrong here, but I have no respect for him and sometimes despise him. He's a huge loser, abusive, and narcissistic. He smokes and drinks heavily. He's in his 50s but looks like he's in his 70s.

He means well because he works hard and makes sure we don't starve and we're financially secured all the time. But he isn't supportive of anything unless it's his idea or opinion. He must be right 100%. It has to be his way 100%. No one can have any other opinions aside from his own. If you do, you're stupid and wrong.

He physically abuse the whole family (including my mom) growing up. He believes it's how you "discipline" and "teach" properly. He trash talks the family, calling everyone dumb and stupid and worthless peaces of shits nonstop. He'll blame everything on my mom and tell her she's worthless.

Sometimes he'll get too drunk and start breaking stuff and beating us. We've never truly figured him out. He thinks his job as a dad is 100% financial and nothing more. I truly believe being a good father is more than just financial. He likes to preach and boast about himself at house parties or during family dinners. Just go on and on about how he used to do this, how he knows how to do that, how good he was at this, how much he could eat back then, etc.

People respect him because he is financially successful. But no one sees that his family is in shambles and his health is nonexistent. I feel like he thrives off of admiration and worship. He wants people to see him as a superior person (who doesn't) but not in a healthy way. You have to earn respect, not demand it or use fear to get it.

I didn't want to rant but I wanted to make a point that being a father is more than just money. You really need to be supportive, understanding, patient, and loving with your family.

My Father and I have a strange relationship.

He was the smartest and most capable man i've ever known when I was a kid, however right when I hit 12 years old times got tough. He had emotional issues from issues that happened in his 20s-30s that I won't go into, My mom left because he was depressed all the time, then his business went under in the 2008 crash and the family farm became unviable due to government regulations.

When all of this hit him, he quit. He stopped trying to do anything at all, he sat in front of the computer 12 hours a day and slept the other 12. Only leaving to get food for us. He made no effort to bring in income. This led to us losing our house and staying with family members. From 12-16 I worked odd jobs like tearing down fences and painting houses to bring in money for us. When I was 15 we liquidated a few assets and bought our own house again when housing was cheap.

At 16 I got a GED so I could start a real job and pay the mortgage. I got stuck with about 200k of debt counting the mortgage and other debts at 16. I'm 25 now, and i'm out of debt, My dad is still living with me, he's been vegetating in front of his computer for the last 13 years now, he can't seem to beat his depression.

I admire my dad for the life he lived, but when things got tough, he quit. Which was something he taught me never to do. My dad is a good person, but it's hard to embrace or respect the choices he made because it basically felt like he shoved all the problems he couldn't fix off on me. As such it's hard for me to consider him a role model or take any advice he gives me. The bright side, is that it certainly taught me self reliance, and I made a vow when i was very young to never quit the way he did.

Also we have bad political differences, he's a very liberal man and i'm a conservative. I will always appreciate the hobbies he got me into as a kid. Jeeping and water skiing are my fondest memories with him.

My old man is a blue pilled trad con guy. Love him with all my heart. Initially he was angry and annoyed I mentioned how I never want to deal with any woman.

At first it pissed me off when he would cave to my Moms nagging. Over time I realized married guys mistakenly think if they just cave the wife will shut the fuck up. They never do!

Hell I thought that way when I did a nine year stretch in marital prison.

It took 9 months but eventually he did say "It sucks things have come to this, but I can see why you say these things."

Initially he was NAWALT, but over time he said "they're too much of a pain in the ass."

My father is awesome, he's been low key MGTOW since my mum divorced him 20 something years ago; didn't realise until I found my way here.

The other week I said to him 'You know when you got divorced I never understood why you never bothered getting into another relationship, but I get it now.' he just replied with 'What do I want with a woman?'

After taking the red pill my dad and I have a better relationship.

I used to see him as the "goofy dumb cartoon dad" as a result of my upbringing.

Now I realize how hard he actually worked to give us the life that we have, while all my mom does it like to talk shit and be ungrateful.

60 hours a week plus a side hustle. Pays the mortgage. Bought my mom a $25K car. Pays the insurance, does the maintenance. Mom is indifferent because it's not a Lexus.

Fixes everything around the house, remodels the house, built outdoor furniture, etc.

My dad isn't total blue pill but he ain't alpha either.

My father was awesome, and the older I get the more I appreciate that. I loved him very, very much, and always will. He died many years ago, and I still miss him and often wish he was around to talk to. One of the things that proudest of is that when he died, he knew exactly how much I loved him. There was nothing left unsaid, and there is none of that father son bullshit in the way.

He was also alpha as fuck. For one thing, he was a surgeon and routinely had people’s lives in his hands, literally. Everyone respected him. He was also big, like me: 6’2”, well over 200 pounds. Nobody fucked with him.

He loved scotch, golf, flyfishing, the Boston Red Sox and all of his kids ended up getting into Ivy League schools and then getting graduate degrees. I spent a lot of time talking with him growing up, and just being with him to hang out. He also had control over my mother. Although she’d freak out once in a while, my father was definitely in charge, and that’s why the relationship worked.

Mine is pretty based. He follows biblical traditional gender roles. Still blue pill in ways. He did remarry, but to someone about half his age. He's 57 she was 25. She doesn't leave the house much because he kinda coned her Into working from home (can't blame him). They live in the middle of bum fuck Texas (probably another calculated move). The closest town is almost an hour drive. Even with his blue pill tendencies, he completely understands why I won't marry and doesn't hound me about it unlike my mother who just won't shut the fuck up about it.

My dads a dick. Needs to use my car to get to and from work. Constantly trying to get me to drop a first, last, & security on an apartment so he can live with me. I’m bailing out and going back to college.

My father was a great man. Had his own company with about 30 employees, was tall, had muscles from all the hard work and was protective as well as caring. One day he even fought with two guys threatening us at a parking lot and won!

He lived a successful marriage with my mother since he's been 18, she was 16. They provided great for us, we had yearly vacations to Disneyland and camping, sometimes farther away like South Africa.

Saddly he died with 45 due to skin cancer. And as the center of the family, he left a hole.

Since then, I was 13 at the time, I was forced to live with my BPD mother. She is a functional alcoholic, it's only beer right (?), and victim of year long childhood abuse.

She didn't mean to hurt me or my siblings but she fucked us all up pretty badly, like cooking food and telling her kids that she had poisened it, or threatening to kill herself if we don't sit near her for hours and listen to her childhood abuse in detail.

I still can tell her presence just by listening to her footsteps in the hallway.

I'm in my late 20s now and glad I'm still alive. Had to deal with BPD, health anxiety and a paranoid fear of being poisened by food made by others.

After a long pathway of psychotherapy I'm doing better, no sleeping in my car in front of hospitals, or paranoid checking if the seal is broken before I buy food at the supermarket anymore, and even my mother has begun therapy.

In a few month I'll start my apprenticeship at a local university hospital in order to become a medical lab technician, and after that I maybe even go for a degree in medical computer science or medical lab science, who knows.

So ultimately, my father was a good man. He worked as a buffer against my BPD mother, and had he lived a little bit longer, my life would have been completely different.
