The Australian Human Rights Commission recently released their report on sexual harassment and assault on university campuses which I will link below. What concerns me is their definition of sexual assault and harassment. Page 57 of the actual report (63 on the pdf) has the fine print of definitions of terms they have used along with their sources. Harassment includes inappropriate staring and sexual assault includes: "when a person is forced, coerced or tricked into sexual acts against their will or without their consent, including when they have withdrawn their consent". The part I am concerned about is withdrawing consent. As someone this has happened to I would think this means being in the middle of something, deciding not to continue then being forced into it further. Do you guys think such a vague definition could extend to someone changing their mind about or regretting an encounter afterward and if so what would this mean for a bloke in a situation like that? How much recourse would a person have?
