To be fair she is saying to avoid the PSA screening test, because they have to take a tissue sample. The test is more accurate but there are problems with over-diagnosing, mis-diagnosing (false positives), and the risk of potential side-effects of ED and incontinence from internal damage. Patients should be aware of all the risks and benefits of procedures being done to them.

I just took this as a call to stop getting this type of test immediately, and to not have your prostate biopsied or removed using it as a recommendation.

There are very few other ways of detecting prostate cancer; and this is by far considered the most useful and accurate. Recently it's come into question how effective it is, as well as the large possibility of ED attached to it.

A yearly digital examination is the traditional method. However, this only can tell if it has changed size and shape, which also happens if you have an enlarged prostate. The PSA test was supposed to be an indication that it wasn't just an enlarged prostate, but in fact cancer.

They're all but yanking the test now. However, there's not much to replace it. She can't suggest an alternative, because there really isn't one. This could be a source of outrage for certain, but I didn't think it was something to be covered in this particular article, which seems largely to be reporting the problem, not suggesting solutions. Why men have a huge cancer problem with little to no solution is something I hope this failure will highlight.
