I don't consider myself a conservative and while I've wondered if this is true in the past...

Mens Rights is a traditionally conservative movement

I hope for most of us, this movement is so important that it transcends political partisanship or affiliation.

I suspect that you weren't being downmodded by your fellow MRAs but perhaps instead by the typical feminist downmod squad.

That said, while I don't really want to debate the issue with you because I don't feel passionate enough about it AND because as I already stated, I am a total hypocrite here...

and its a documentary. Its not like we're watching the latest $50,000,000 Hollywood Blockbuster.

I'd say the moral highground is probably more easily found downloading the big budget Hollywood tripe. They'll probably miss your money proportionately less.

Also, I think either you or I should do a submission on this. Discuss our collective political bent and see how many liberals and conservatives we have here. See what other issues might corrolate to gender issues.

A lot of conservatives don't fly the flag because of the popular media depiction of conservatives as Bible thumping rednecks, and miserly racists, with no "social conscious". So they call themselves liberals even though their beliefs tend toward the conservative. i read a great article once about this matter, they pointed out that many blacks are liberal because of "community organizing" and the hand outs and shit, while they support capital punishment, the right to bear arms, sanctity of life, sanctity of marriage, etc. Then they talked about the "liberal" stoner, who is generally the same character, he wants lower taxes and and stiff penalties for criminals and all that shit, but he thinks the democrats are gonna give him the right to smoke dope, so he votes blue. Thats all paraphrasing of course, but you get the jist. You probably know plenty of people like that or similar. I know I can think of a few. I was pretty much raised like that.

The thing about reddit, is its vastly liberal in nature, so what your getting on /r/mensrights, is not really representative of whats going on in the forums and on youtube, and certainly not in the street, where mens rights advocates are most commonly found among pro-lifers, pro-family, Christian groups, and in Libertarian camps.

The big conflict between Blue and Red Mens Rights Activists is not the issues, its how we approach the issues. Each group feels MRM should be represented in the traditional fashion of their political ideology. I don't even think its worth discussing honestly. I think Mens Rights benefits from multiplicity. People working from different angles with different perspectives and attitudes. Its a good thing I think. of course that doesn't mean I'm gonna cut them any slack.

I agree with you about Reddit's overall biases.

I just don't think MR is inherently pro-life, pro-family, Christian (or relgious or spiritual in general) or Libertarian. I am on the fence about abortion since both sides argue their viewpoint so poorly. I guess I'm pro-family... whatever that means. I'm pro-father. I am so agnostic, I might as well call myself atheist.

I didn't vote. I would have voted Obama. But there's only one thing Obama has done that I think pertains to MR and that's the appointment of Sotomayer who appears to be both misandrist and possibly racist as well. That concerns me enough that I would think long and hard about voting for Obama in 2012. I am very pro-labor though so I'd find it hard to vote Republican. Don't even get me started on Bill Frist trying to squash online gambling. If he ever runs, I might try to assassinate him.
