The man that was attacked was a Marine, and was partially disabled. Despite what he and his daughters reported to police, they arrested him anyway. Later after speaking to the daughters, one of whom was 11 years old, the deputies uncuffed the father. They advised him that he should use his medical insurance to seek help for the mother, his attacker.

He later remarked, “When she had a fat lip, it was a felony and I was going to jail. But when they finally realized that she tried to stab me in the neck, it stopped being a crime, and instead it was a mental health issue.”

Been there, done that. I had the ex arrested for DV, didn't file a protective order. A week later, as I'm packing the kids to go to my folks after filing for divorce, she called 911 and had me arrested on false charges. Despite the week difference in the two incidents (and the fact that hers was clearly in retaliation for filing for divorce), the prosecutor handled this as a cross claim.

Bias is alive and well.

Wow. That was really, really sad. I've heard the same kind of thing before from other sources. Nobody EVER says that a man beats his wife because he's "depressed" or has some kind of "mental health issue". It sickens me that we are so willing to give women a free pass and a ready justification to explain away their violence.

Reading this as a Canadian accustomed to good ol' deg-C is a bit of a mindfuck. :)
