I was just talking to my female manager about my cousin's death (he and his fiancé were hit by a semi truck as they were driving from New Jersey to Pennsylvania for their wedding) and she said something that bothered me. I was talking about how death in general doesn't hit me hard, obviously i get sad but i dont really grieve or get depressed or anything like that with death. and when i told her i dont really grieve, she responded with a straightforward and serious tone "well its cus youre a guy." and that had me irked. im a pessimist and im calloused but im not a heartless machine. im still biting my tongue 10 minutes later to keep myself from losing it at work and im honestly sickened at this generalizing misconception.
