there are no other ways to account for 14 votes on a two week old comment on a nonreddit website?

[–]menareangrynow[S] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Tons of them, obviously. I just found this interesting, that a subreddit with a community of +7000, had a link to an article, in which one comment had a large number of upvotes, despite every reply to that person disagreeing and berating him heavily for what he said. If the people on that blog really thought he was right, then why didn't they say so in the comment section? Instead they said, "your a fucking idiot", and "you are a flaming idiot who is trying to troll, shut the hell up and move on." It just doesn't seem likely that they were the ones who gave him his upvotes for saying that men should loose their suffrage, now doesn't it? Still, though, it might not have been because the article was linked to by a subreddit with +7000 people, in which some of them might not be egalitarian. ~~

The karma/upvote system isn't accurate. It doesn't show actual upvotes or downvotes.

"The karma/upvote system isn't accurate. It doesn't show actual upvotes or downvotes."

Which is why it's good that the upvoteing wasn't on reddit, which means it's actually accurate.

[–]pcarvious 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who says it's accurate? I sincerely doubt that reddit is the only site that masks their voting system.

This focussing on micro-issues while ignoring major ones is getting pretty annoying.

Who gives a fuck what feminists are saying about us, and who gives a fuck how many 'karma points' you have? What are we, 12?

Holy shit man.....

"This focussing on micro-issues while ignoring major ones is getting pretty annoying."

Does everything that's said really have to be about the most hard-line issues? Why can't a mere reddit post be about something smaller? If everything has to be about the most important of issues, ALWAYS, then please explain how this post on your own blog is a major world-shattering gender issue for men:

http://huntingforarchetypes.blogspot.com/2010/10/why-i-sometimes-hate-where-i-livea-lot.html

Or what about this one? How is this the zenith of importance for fighting for men's civil rights?

http://huntingforarchetypes.blogspot.com/2010/07/10-gorgeous-women-in-no-particular.html

Or what about this? Here you even contradict yourself by saying, "I figured, what the hell, why be serious all the time?"

http://huntingforarchetypes.blogspot.com/2009/04/showing-off.html

"Who gives a fuck what feminists are saying about us, and who gives a fuck how many 'karma points' you have? What are we, 12?"

And if you don't care about what feminists have to say, then do you really want me to post ALL the links to videos and articles you've done about them, and yes, what they say about us?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Are you on glue? What exactly are you getting at...that reddit is a personal blog?

Hunting for Archetypes is my personal blog. You won't find a whole lot of MRA stuff on there, although you will see some. It's also something I more or less let die on the vine, since I have more important things to do.

This isn't a personal blog. Last time I checked anyway...

[–]menareangrynow[S] 2 points3 points4 points 15 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

No, what I'm getting at, is that you don't follow the rules you hand out to others. You said, and I quote verbatim, "This focussing on micro-issues while ignoring major ones is getting pretty annoying." You yourself, go into micro, or completely unrelated issues, for that mater, all the time. I just simply would like to be afforded the same ease of subject matter that you grant yourself.

If you wanna chalk up that inconsistency to Hunting for Archetypes being a personal blog, then that's fine. I'm totally cool with people writing and addressing whatever they want. I encourage that. (BTW, you don't happen to have a deviantart account do you? Those pictures you made were really cool)

However, reddit is an open community, ipso facto each person can talk about what they want. Each person can post about what they want. So, I really don't see why you feel the need to call everyone here 12, just because there are some topics here that you don't find important. If you want something addressed, then post about it. You're free to do so. And, that's the point. This isn't the warchamber of the men's movement. It's 'effing reddit. It's just a quaint little corner of the internets, where people post about what they feel like. If you'd like to talk and brainstorm about the big issues, I'm all for that, and I will help, just like I offered to help you do research about men's rights in Canada (http://huntingforarchetypes.blogspot.com/2010/08/appeal-to-fellow-canadian-mras.html?showComment=1281702195594#c8783026916301192140).

However, none of this stops me from talking about all the other things that peek my fancy. Not everything has to be about the big things. But's that's just me. I do get it that it can be disconcerting when people talk a lot about things that you don't consider important. There's tons of self proclaimed 'MRAs' that piss me off, because they never talk about men, for example; they just talk about dating and shit. I get it. But, ultimately, it's not for me to tell them what to talk about. Although I do reserve the right to question (heavily) their claim to the title "MRA" if they never talk about men. ;)

To sum it up, if you wanna really talk and brainstorm about the big issues, that's awesome. Good on ya, and I want in on that. It's just that talking about small issues doesn't detract from other issues. We CAN talk about anything and everything, you know. So, no I'm not 'on glue'. I'm just very open minded to talking about lots of different things.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So, I really don't see why you feel the need to call everyone here 12, just because there are some topics here that you don't find important.

Actually, that comment was more about the freaking out about downvotes (for fuck's sake, how devoid of actual value does something have to be before people don't care how much of it they have?).

To sum it up, if you wanna really talk and brainstorm about the big issues, that's awesome. Good on ya, and I want in on that. I can get behind that, I really can. What I am getting at in terms of a 'signal to noise ratio' type complaint, is this incessant back and forth about downvotes and shit between here and r/feminism and such. It's REALLY juvenile, IMHO.

The Mens Movement is about ideas and concerns more than downvotes and trolls. It's perhaps a side-effect of being in this movement for so damn long that I just can't see the point in getting pissed off at that kind of thing.

[–]menareangrynow[S] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"I can get behind that, I really can."

Alrighty then, then let's get at it. Let's start a think-tank or a project, or something together. Let's tackle the big issues together.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You mean you want me to take on ANOTHER project? Are you a sadist?

:)

They might upvote a stupid comment, but if I get my voting rights taken away I'm taking away their governance privileges. All evens out in the end.
