This is no joke. I know a guy, bike messenger, never registered. He can't get financial aid for college, now that he is going. Guys who don't register before 26 can't get Federal jobs. See here.

menareangrynow, you should know that you can register for selective service, but can declare yourself a conscientious objector when called. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#Who_must_register)

Also, you can usually deny that you knew you had to register, and you can't be put in jail unless it can be proven you did so intentionally.

The exemption for women for selective service has been tested last time in 1994, and maintained because the policy at the time excluded women from combat positions. Wasn't there a recent development that women are now allowed in those positions in the US? If yes, it looks like now is the perfect time to do review this issue.

I know a lot of women poo-poo draft registration since a draft hasn't been called in recent years, but I know from experience that every boy who has to register as a teenager is affected by it. Knowing that by signing that paper, you are agreeing to be ready to inflict harm on people when called upon has more of a psychological impact on boys than is apparent on the surface. Growing up as a teenage boy, knowing that there could be a holiday in Cambodia right around the corner for you has an impact whether or not you are actually called up.

Like you, I was bothered when I had to do it. I still am. But when it comes down to it, if there is a draft, I will not make the cut, since there are three criteria by which fitness is judged. Mental, physical, and moral. I would fail the latter two by a massive mark. If, by some miracle I did not, I would leave the US and formally renounce my citizenship (which, as a dual citizen I can). It is outrageous that it should come to that, and that gender plays a role there. But, since we've gone decades without a draft, it isn't a paramount concern compared to issues of custodial rights, abortion rights, alimony abuse, domestic violence against men, ect.

When I registered for FAFSA, they determined that I had already signed up! Apparently in Louisiana when you get your drivers permit and licenses, they auto-register you.

Feminists never of course mention this sexism and injustice. If I were send to prison for 25 years the moment I came out, murdering judges/prosecutors or their families for it would seem like due payment.

Your only real option is to join, but shoot your COs (or higher if you have the opportunity) etc in combat (preferably with an enemy's weapon). In this way, the tyranny of this injustice would have a very nasty blowback effect that would be impossible to ignore. Only aquiescent, passive servitude would be defeating.

I am in favor of keeping women away from combat.

I think my point is made if you just step back for a moment, imagine a WW2 situation, and women being drafted en masse for combat roles, and killed in wave after wave like in Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, or D-Day. I just can't imagine us sending women to do the job of men. If we are in a desperate fight for survival, we don't send the women first if there is a risk of them being butchered. Men go out to protect the society, including the women. That is nature.

In our society today, females have developed a huge advantage in education and job opportunities. It is time for women to no longer have de jure advantages. Instead, let the law treat the sexes as equals. I'm in favor of eliminating affirmative action for women, or adding affirmative action for men. I think that either change would solve a lot of the problems related to paltry opportunities for men. Women will continue to have excellent educational and career opportunities, and the lack of a combat option for them would not harm them a bit.

Well I hate to say it but your going to have to suck it up and register or live with the consequences. Getting mopey and depressed wont help you a bit. Your a man and its the law so your going to have to deal with it. In live there are a lot of things you have to do but you don't want to and selective service is one of those things. I regesterd for the draft years ago and you know how it has effected my life? It hasn't because there is no draft and there hasn't been one for decades. Is it unfair that only men have to register? Hell yes it is. But here is a news flash it has been this way since human society has evolved. The choice is yours register or don't but if you don't then you will have to deal with the consequences.

COME ON! Seriously guys! I get it, this isn't the same for woman. I'm all for mensrights but you must understand there are biological differences here. Men are more suitable for combat than woman on average. Also, if you have 100 woman and 100 men, you only need to keep one lucky man to impregnate the 100 woman, you can't do that the other way around which is why it is more logical to send men to war than woman (aside from the plethora of other reasons). This is just how life works. It's not fair at all, but that is life. Men and woman have biological differences, not EVERYTHING has to equal. That would just suck.
