I applied to the Womens and Childrens Hospital when I graduated and was told to stop applying. I was told point blank that they didn't hire males for research positions at the hospital.

I went to the equal opportunity tribunal and stated that they were discriminating against men.

I was told that they weren't discriminating against men, that was illegal. They were discriminating in favour of women and that was totally legal.

I checked it out. It's actually not illegal to discriminate against men. The Australian Commonweath Sex discrimination legislation actually states that it's only illegal to discriminate if it's against women.

I went to medical school for 4 years and worked in healthcare for 7-8 years total. 90% of my colleagues and fellow students we're female.

The only major problem I encountered time and time again is that I would always be assigned the heavier patients/tasks, increasing the amount of pshysical labour because "I'm such a strong young men".

Don't get me wrong, I like to push myself and understand we're they're coming from, but doing this every single day is exremely exhausting, not to mention, because the workload was harder and you would usually spend more time on it, it usually resulted in me ending up having to take my breaks alone, and not being able to spend contact and/or band with my colleagues. It made me feel alone and used every single day.

Whenever I brought this up, the problem was either ignored, fixed for 2 weeks before everything went back to normal, or colleagues ended up resenting me for it thinking I was just being lazy or had a lack of workethics. The few other male colleagues I had experienced simular issues.

I was never given the feeling that i was appreciated equally as a colleague, but more so that I was just 'an added bonus'.

The Australian public service trialled gender blind hiring to remove bias. They found that it reduced the number of women being hired slightly (that is, before the study, there was a bias in favour of women), so they reverted back to the old system so that they would hire more men.

In other words, they chose a system that was provably biased against men.

I work in a female dominated profession where the ratio of men to women is about 1 to 8, and worse yet im basically one of the only YOUNG men in my department. This inevitably has made me targeted to unwanted attention and blatantly sexist attitudes that feminists outright deny occurs. Most of the women are professional, but most also are guilty of perpetuating typically sexist behaviors like insisting I change the water tank every time, I move the heavy stuff when needed, I handle the difficult clients, etc.

Worse yet I've also encountered unwanted, unsolicited sexual remarks from older women that blatantly violate the code of conduct and was at one point touched in untoward way that I wont go into detail about. When I took this to my administrator she assumed it was a man and when I told her it was a female, she switched gears and asked if I really wanted to file a complaint. After all the taxing paperwork an ersatz investigation took place and no disciplinary action was taken against the woman.

Discrimination and sexual harassment against absolutely exist and I would think are probably eclipsing cases against women facing discrimination. Worst of all, such cases are not taken seriously at all.

I'm in a female dominated field, there's plenty of prejudice, but eh you get over it. Just keep your head down, do your job, you stay out of trouble. Im all for men fighting for equality for women (there's still areas where it's needed) but wary of those who are particularly vocal on social media without action...there tend to be a lot of guys who 'white knight' as a dating strategy and they tend to be sketchy dudes. I'm generalizing of course, but it's enough of a phenomenon that I've noticed it. I don't think advocating for men or womens rights should be mutually exclusive so there's no betrayal to me...do what you feel passionate about.

Does it make sense to permanently ban someone for making a basic point about equal pay from a sub called unpopular opinions? One post, removal, question, ban! Tough crowd.
Great answers. My point wasn’t to limit the question to work environments with a majority of women, but to hear about what other men are experiencing in the workplace around reverse prejudice.

I started at the same time as a woman at my last job. Got a raise. She found out and was mad she didn’t get a raise. The next week HR said they made a mistake and didn’t mean to give me the raise. The same day I found out she got the same raise.
